I took the contract because it made sense.

One year as Stellan Rothwell’s wife. A paper arrangement designed to stabilize the image around a man I didn’t know and wasn’t meant to understand.

My role was simple. Blend in. Keep things from falling apart. Divorce when it’s over.

But nothing about Stellan is simple.

He’s careful with everything—his time, his trust, his heart. The more I learn about the life I’ve stepped into, the harder it is to keep my distance.

I didn’t come here to get involved.

I knew the rules, the expectations, the limits.

But something changed.

And now, what started as an agreement I understood… feels like a life I might not be ready to leave.

VEIL OF FIRE is a dark contemporary romance featuring an arranged marriage, a spy bride drawn into a secret society, and a morally gray hero who falls first. With forced proximity, a fake relationship, and simmering enemies-to-lovers tension, it’s perfect for readers who crave power imbalances, one-bed moments, and emotional slow burns wrapped in danger.

I glance at Stellan as I cross my legs, tilting slightly toward him. Just enough to read as familiar.

He gets up and walks around the desk. He holds out his hand.
I rise and take it.

He leans in, his voice low. “Shall we go convince a few hundred people we’re madly in love?” There’s the faintest curve at the corner of his mouth. Not quite a smile, but more like the idea of one.

I lift a brow, a smile spreading across my face. “Lead the way.”

  • Let’s start by saying I started and did not put it down until I finished…. And I’m mad that I finished it so quickly. I need more, need another book(s).

Talia and Stellan work so well together. You learn a lot about them and still want more. Watching them both develop and heal made the book more interesting. The supporting characters give the plot more depth and kept me wanting to know more about them. Spin offs if you will.

Touch her and die vibes, morally grayish mmc, arranged marriage, found family, power imbalance… just to name a few tropes.

I need more, I want to know what comes of the main characters.. and I need to read about the next marriage between Dante and I have a theory….

    Great book!
